The training has been designed through the EU-funded Jordan-Italy Twinning project <\/SPAN><SPAN style=\"LINE-HEIGHT: 115%; FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma; FONT-SIZE: 10pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB\" lang=\"EN-GB\">\u201cStrengthen the institutional tourism system in <?xml:namespace prefix = \"st1\" ns = \"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags\" \/><st1:country-region w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Jordan<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> by enhancing the capacities of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities\u201d<\/SPAN><SPAN style=\"LINE-HEIGHT: 115%; FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma; FONT-SIZE: 10pt\" lang=\"EN-US\">, and will be carried out by experts from the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (MiBACT).<BR><BR><\/SPAN><\/FONT><FONT color=\"#000000\"><SPAN style=\"LINE-HEIGHT: 115%; FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma; FONT-SIZE: 10pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB\" lang=\"EN-GB\">The training is part of the action of the Twinning project dedicated to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Umm ar-Rasas, an <\/SPAN><SPAN style=\"LINE-HEIGHT: 115%; FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma; FONT-SIZE: 10pt\" lang=\"EN-US\">archaeological site which started as a Roman military camp and grew to become a town from the 5th century, containing remains from the Roman, Byzantine and Early Islamic periods (end of 3rd to 9th centuries AD). The training <\/SPAN><SPAN style=\"LINE-HEIGHT: 115%; FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma; FONT-SIZE: 10pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB\" lang=\"EN-GB\">aims at enhancing the capacities of the staff of DoA and the staff of Umm ar-Rasas particularly<\/SPAN><SPAN style=\"LINE-HEIGHT: 115%; FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma; FONT-SIZE: 10pt\" lang=\"EN-US\">, build on their skills and experiences and enhancing them through lectures and hands-on practical demonstrations and exercises, delivered by distinguished Italian experts. The program of the training has been developed through the cooperation of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism and the Department of Antiquities. <BR><BR><\/SPAN><\/FONT><SPAN style=\"LINE-HEIGHT: 115%; FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma; FONT-SIZE: 10pt\" lang=\"EN-US\"><FONT color=\"#000000\">Dr. Monther Jamhawi, General Director of Department of Antiquities, said: \u201c<\/FONT><SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma; COLOR: #222222\">This course is designed<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><SPAN style=\"COLOR: #222222\"> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">to<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">strengthen and build<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">the<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">capacity of the staff of Umm ar-Rasas site particularly and the staff of the<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">Department of Antiquities generall<\/SPAN><\/SPAN>y. <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">Our journey<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">in the<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">site<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">of Umm ar-Rasas started from the moment of<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">discovery<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">in 1986<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">and<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">the completion of<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">the archaeological excavations, followed by<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">maintenance and restoration works<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">until it was listed on the World Heritage<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">List<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">in 2004. The site development by The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities began with the construction of the visitor center and trails, the signage system as well as acquisition of large part of the site to become a<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">tourism destination.<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">Through<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <SPAN class=\"hps\"><SPAN style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma\">this Training of capacity building, we hope to qualify the staff of Umm ar-Rasas, who are originally from the local community to enable them to integrate them into the management and conservation of the site and sustain the site for future generation<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/SPAN><FONT color=\"#000000\">\u201d<BR><BR><\/FONT><\/SPAN><SPAN style=\"LINE-HEIGHT: 115%; FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma; FONT-SIZE: 10pt\" lang=\"EN-US\"><FONT color=\"#000000\">Dr. Rosanna Binacchi, Project Leader for the Twinning project, said: \u201cEach training session will cover a specific theme: valorization of archaeological sites and museums, shelter design, preventive conservation, <SPAN style=\"COLOR: black\">restoration of historical buildings.<\/SPAN> The training activity has been designed with special focus on the UNESCO World Heritage site of Umm ar-Rasas and its structures that span from the Roman to the Byzantine and Early Islamic periods.
